Def Leppard - Pyromania - 1983

Manager Peter Mensch met graphic designer Andie Airfix to discuss creating the artwork. They concluded they had enough of cliché hard rock covers with tattoos, pictures of half-naked women riding motorbikes and fire-breathing monsters.

Preter Mensch: 'We need something different – more modern. We need to go back to basics. We need to redefine the image of heavy rock!'

The title Pyromania was some kind of an inside joke. During the sessions, the band had a lot of problems with their Marshall amplifiers to sound good. They suggested taking them to the garden and burn them all. As a bunch of Pyromaniacs!
