The Beatles - Rubber Soul - 1965

The lettering was smartly designed by Charles Front. It was a perfect match within the empty space in the upperleft and completed the curved and stretched result of Freeman. An iconic album cover was the result.

At The Beatles request, Capitol left the cover intact for the American release, including the photo montage on the back cover. Finally, the group had enough clout to call the shots - even in the US.

'Rubber Soul' is a Beatles' play on the term 'Plastic Soul', a term used to describe white musicians playing a traditionally black style of music- essentially "fake" soul!
